Rexie Roy McMullen II, 57, of Jasper, Texas, was found dead on February 9, 2022 in the burned-out remains of his former daughter-in-law’s house. An autopsy showed he had been shot to death before the fire. He had last been in contact on February 4, and family say he went to live with his former daughter-in-law under the impression he would be closer to his grandchildren.
Investigators linked the death to three people who were arrested and indicted: Courtney Breanna Minter-McMullen, 32, of Jasper; her boyfriend Paul James Taucer, 34, of Buna; and Jeramy Wayne Nickens, 35. Minter-McMullen and Taucer were charged with murder and later served murder warrants while already jailed on separate offenses; Nickens was charged with arson after admitting to setting the house on fire. Minter-McMullen was later found in possession of McMullen’s wallet and cellphone. Bonds were set at $1.5 million for Minter-McMullen and Taucer and $250,000 for Nickens.
Family members say McMullen had suffered a brain aneurysm and had physical and mental challenges that left him vulnerable, and they believe the motive involved methamphetamine and money. Does anyone have information about Rexie McMullen’s movements in early February 2022 or about contacts between him and Minter-McMullen or Taucer?
