James Fatty Botley Jr. was a 20-year-old from Port Arthur, Texas, who died after a shooting at the Encore Apartments in the 3600 block of Jimmy Johnson Boulevard on January 29, 2022. Port Arthur police responded shortly after 8 p.m. and found Botley Jr. at the scene; investigators say shots were fired during an argument and a suspect was taken into custody. The Port Arthur Police Department’s Criminal Investigations Division is handling the matter and the investigation is ongoing.

Botley Jr., a 2020 graduate of Memorial High School, is mourned by his parents, Bobbi Botley and James Botley Sr., his sister Jariyah Botley, and other relatives and friends. The case has prompted questions about security at the apartment complex; a law firm has called for an inspection to determine whether the property’s security was adequate and whether a civil claim might follow.

Does anyone who knew James or who was at the Encore Apartments that night have information that could help investigators?
