Michelle Patton, 38, was killed on January 23, 2022, at a Rosharon, Texas gas station where she and her husband, Stephen Patton, had stopped to refuel. According to testimony, the couple encountered three young men and a verbal confrontation followed. Stephen testified that one of the men threatened them and that a man produced a gun and began shooting; Michelle was fatally shot and died at the scene.

Surveillance video from the gas station was introduced at trial and was said to corroborate witness testimony about the sequence of events. Luis Urvina was indicted for Michelle’s murder; his claim of self-defense was rejected by the jury, which returned a guilty verdict.
