Ivan Josue Ortiz-Castillo, a 19-year-old Hispanic male, was shot and killed on December 27, 2021, on the 10001 block of West County Road 154 in Midland County, Texas. He was found by the entrance to TM RV Park, where he had been living, and the Midland County Sheriff’s Office reported a single gunshot wound to the chest as the cause of death.

Investigators say Ortiz-Castillo had been communicating with an unidentified person about drug and money transactions. On the day he died he was asked by text to come outside for a drug delivery. Surveillance showed a white car arrive shortly before the shooting; a message asking what did you do was sent to Ortiz-Castillo one minute after the car left. Blood was found leading to broken glass at the scene.

The sheriff’s office arrested 23-year-old Nereida Viscarra-Garcia, charging her with tampering with physical evidence and murder and identifying her as the owner of the white car. The affidavit links Ortiz-Castillo’s blood at the scene to Viscarra-Garcia through social media and investigative tools. The investigation is ongoing; anyone with information is asked to contact authorities.
