Gordon Ray Walls, 60, of Texarkana, Texas, was shot behind a home on Horseshoe Loop in Bowie County on October 24, 2021. He suffered life-threatening wounds in a double shooting and died early the next morning. Walls was born November 18, 1960, in Ceres, California, and spent much of his life in the Valliant, Oklahoma, area. He worked as a tree planter and brush control contractor for Weyerhauser and enjoyed walking and fishing.
Bowie County authorities say Thomas Wayne Lawson Sr., 51, was arrested at the scene and found still armed with a rifle. Lawson was charged with murder and aggravated assault; after Walls died the aggravated assault charge was upgraded to murder. Investigators report Lawson admitted to shooting both victims and was also charged with possession of a small amount of suspected methamphetamine under 1 gram. Bond was set at $1,000,000 on the initial murder count and $5,000 on the possession charge; a bond for the second murder count had not been set.
Walls is survived by his mother Mary Walls, his son Kyle Ray Walls, his daughter Maura Green, and other family members. Does anyone have information about the incident or knew Gordon and can share details that might help the ongoing inquiry?
