Jonathon Cain Segura, 22, was shot and killed on September 10, 2021, in Eagle Lake, Texas. Segura, a recent returnee from the U.S. Marine Corps, was sleeping on his living room couch when an intruder fired four shots into the home, killing him.
The shooter was identified as 28-year-old Dante Larenz Stevens of Garwood. The trial presented evidence that Stevens broke into Segura’s home and that the killing was carried out in retaliation for the earlier death of Stevens’ cousin, Keaton Hancock, who had been shot less than two hours before Segura. Stevens was found guilty of capital murder and sentenced to life without parole. Two others, Daegen Mendoza and Dontrae Johnson, were also connected to the incident; Mendoza received 10 years probation for his role.
Segura’s family described him as a dedicated Marine and loving family member. Does anyone who knew Jonathon or who was in Eagle Lake on September 10, 2021, have information that could add to the record?
