Kolby Marquise Graham, a 20-year-old African American man from Lancaster, Texas, was fatally shot in the head on April 25, 2021, in DeSoto, Texas. The shooting occurred during a balloon release ceremony held to honor Camran Kashawn Collier, a 19-year-old junior Olympic boxer and Marine Corps Reserve member who had been murdered three days earlier.
Those posts were reportedly false; the misinformation prompted Norman Collier to confront Graham at the memorial and shoot him. Norman Collier was arrested, indicted by a Dallas County grand jury and held in custody with bail set at $1 million.
Graham’s family, including his mother Tamaka Graham, mourned his death and emphasized that he was wrongfully accused. The case underscores how false social media claims can inflame real-world violence. Does anyone have information about what was shared online before the memorial or about witnesses who were at the balloon release?
