Sterling James McCain, 24, of San Angelo, Texas, was shot multiple times and died on April 3, 2021. Born October 27, 1996, in Poteet, Texas, he was described by family as a caring, sensitive man who loved fishing, playing guitar and rescuing dogs. He was married to Myan Largent.
Police were called about an unknown problem in the 800 block of Childress Street and found Sterling’s body along with a black rifle, ammunition and a large fixed-blade knife.
Ian Alexander Smith, 21, was later indicted for McCain’s murder. Smith has told authorities he acted in self-defense after Sterling assaulted Myan and threatened both of them; Smith was in custody on a $50,000 bond as the case moved through the courts. Sterling’s mother, Michelle Fiveash, described him as a kind, giving hard worker and is following the proceedings closely.
