Brooke Nicole Spurgeon, 22, of Forney, Texas, was found unresponsive with a gunshot wound to the head at the Lake By Apartments in Seven Points on February 18, 2021. She was a North Forney High School alum who played volleyball and softball and was the mother of a daughter, Charli. Her memorial service took place February 28, 2021, at New Hope Funeral Home in Sunnyvale.

A 48-year-old man, Christopher Nelson Hood, was found next to Brooke and told emergency dispatchers that she had retrieved a gun and he accidentally shot her while trying to wrestle it away. Forensic evidence and witness testimony presented at trial contradicted that account, including testimony that Brooke was lying flat on the ground when shot, gunshot residue on Hood’s hand, and Brooke’s blood and DNA on the weapon.

Hood was convicted of murder and unlawful possession of a firearm by a felon. Family, neighbors, and multiple law enforcement agencies involved in the investigation described Brooke as a devoted mother and athlete. If anyone knew Brooke or has information about her last day, please share what you remember.
