Guadalupe Lucio Naranjo, an 80-year-old Hispanic man from Jasper, Texas, was found dead in his home on Olen Street south of Jasper after a friend called emergency services when she could not reach him. Naranjo, a retired U.S. Army drill sergeant and former warden of the Filyaw Correctional Unit, was described as handy and active in yard work, carpentry, and vehicle work. He is survived by children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Investigators say Naranjo suffered multiple stab wounds and gunshot injuries, and believe he fought back. On February 4, 2021, law enforcement arrested 22-year-old Dalton Paul Hinch of Vidor in connection with the killing; authorities reported a 9 millimeter semi-automatic gun was missing from the scene. The Orange County Sheriff’s Office and other agencies were involved in the high-risk arrest, and Hinch was arraigned on a murder charge and taken to the Jasper County Jail.

Anyone who knew Naranjo, saw activity near Olen Street around the time of the attack, or has information that could help investigators is asked to come forward.
