Nichlos Montay Muldrow, a 29-year-old African American man, was fatally shot on January 12, 2021, in Texarkana, Texas. He was sitting in his car in the parking lot of the Oaklawn Village Shopping Center when he was shot; he was taken to a local hospital and later died of his wounds.

Initial investigative leads produced a murder warrant for Marques Jujuan Thompson, 20, who was believed to have shot Muldrow and was also wanted on other charges including aggravated assault and probation violations. Authorities later identified Charles Jerome Carter, 32, as the shooter. Testimony at trial said Carter and Muldrow argued before Carter fired multiple shots; witnesses reported Carter had claimed they were meeting to complete a marijuana transaction before the encounter turned violent.

Charles Jerome Carter was convicted of Muldrow’s murder and sentenced to life in prison; the jury’s decision was upheld on appeal. Anyone with information about the shooting or who knew Nichlos Muldrow is asked to come forward.
