Miguel Angel Flores-Delarosa, a 37-year-old Hispanic man who ran a taqueria stand, was shot dead on December 6, 2020, in Magnolia, Texas. He was working in a portable storage building behind a food trailer with his common-law wife when two armed men confronted them and demanded money and cell phones; one of the assailants fatally shot Flores-Delarosa during the robbery.
Authorities charged 18-year-old James Louis Barnes of Magnolia with capital murder in the killing. Barnes was already in custody that day on unrelated aggravated robbery and marijuana possession charges; investigators say he had been involved in an aggravated robbery just hours before the shooting and had faced a prior deadly-conduct-with-a-firearm charge from 2019. The sheriff’s office indicated additional charges could be filed against Barnes and another person tied to the crime.
The shooting has deeply affected the community and prompted ongoing legal action. Anyone who knew Flores-Delarosa or who has information about the robbery and shooting is asked to come forward.
