Tevin Dewayne Moore, 26, was shot multiple times and killed on November 22, 2020, his birthday, at the Plymouth Village Apartments on Helbig Road in Beaumont, Texas. Witnesses said the shooting followed a verbal argument between Moore and 23-year-old Davion Mason. Mason turned himself in to the Beaumont Police Department and was charged with murder.

Mason admitted at trial that he shot Moore but said he acted in self-defense. The jury began deliberations on September 13, 2022, and returned a not guilty verdict on September 16, 2022, after a short period of deliberation. The trial had been delayed at least once, including because a key witness was ill. A plea offer that would have capped Mason’s sentence at 45 years was reportedly rejected before trial.
