Ruben Castillo was a 35-year-old father of six from Corpus Christi, Texas, active in local youth sports and a devoted supporter of the Corpus Christi Sun Devils middle-school football program. Friends and the team’s head coach described him as a comforting presence who made every moment about the boys and often spoke proudly of his sons.
On the night of November 14, 2020, police responded to a shooting at An’s Market in the 3100 block of South Port Avenue and found Castillo with a gunshot wound. He was taken to a nearby hospital and died of his injuries on November 15. His brother later started a fundraiser to help with funeral costs and support Castillo’s children.
Investigators arrested two men in connection with the case: 26-year-old Jose Luis Erebia was taken into custody at a Glenoak Drive residence on November 20, 2020, and 27-year-old Roland Cabrera was arrested on November 30 in the Schanen Boulevard area. A Nueces County grand jury indicted both men for murder on February 26, 2021; Cabrera also faced an aggravated assault with a deadly weapon charge. Both were in Nueces County Jail as of March 2021.
Did anyone in Corpus Christi know Ruben or have information about the night at An’s Market?
