Justin Zatovich, 68, was found dead at his Midland, Texas, home on November 9, 2020. Police responded about 6:10 p.m. to the 500 block of South Mineola after shots had been heard near the residence earlier that morning; Zatovich had sustained multiple gunshot wounds and was pronounced dead at the scene on his back porch.
Investigators tied the killing to a housing dispute involving Samuel Moreno. Evidence presented at Moreno’s trial said Moreno and two other men pulled Zatovich from his home; he was then shot and stabbed multiple times and left to die. Home security video was introduced as key evidence.
John Thomas Sepulveda was arrested November 10, 2020, and later pleaded guilty; he received a 25-year sentence in September 2021. Brad Michael Beck was arrested November 12, 2020, in Round Rock and remains awaiting trial. Samuel Moreno was arrested November 17, 2020; a Midland County jury found him guilty and he was sentenced to 60 years in prison with a $5,000 fine, and must serve at least 30 years before parole eligibility.
Did anyone in Midland have contact with Zatovich in the days before November 9 who might add details about the housing dispute?
