John Samuel Dagen was 19 when he was fatally shot after a party in North San Angelo on October 18, 2020. He suffered seven gunshot wounds to his back, three to his arms, and one to his leg; the shots were fired from a distance and he was found in a pool of blood in an alley at East 29th and Pecan Streets. He was taken to Shannon Medical Center where he later died.
Dagen was born February 12, 2001, in Farmers Branch, Texas, and graduated from Rochelle High School in 2019. He played football and tennis and was in the school band. His father, John L. Dagen, is a former McCulloch County sheriff and had adopted Sam when he was four.
The San Angelo Police Department arrested 19-year-old Arturo Garcia Jr., who was found walking away from the scene during a burglary patrol. Garcia was indicted on murder and assault charges, later pleaded guilty, and received a 50-year sentence for the murder with an additional 10 years for assault on correctional officers, to run concurrently with credit for time served. Does anyone have information about that night or knew Sam and can share what he was like?
