Marisol Martinez, 33, was found shot to death in the pre-dawn hours of August 25, 2020. Police discovered her around 2:50 a.m. inside her black Ford Expedition parked on the shoulder of Interstate 35 North near the Walmart Distribution Center in New Braunfels, Texas.
Investigators identified a suspect, 32-year-old Sacramento Martinez, who had previously been in a relationship with Marisol and against whom a protective order had been issued after a family violence and strangulation incident in March 2019. Authorities say Sacramento fled on foot after shooting Marisol, ran across the highway to a TA Truck Stop, and there shot the truck driver, 45-year-old Daniel Sieger of Mission, Texas, stealing the rig. Callers later reported the 18-wheeler being driven erratically on I-35; the vehicle crashed and overturned in downtown San Antonio, where first responders found Sieger dead from a gunshot wound.
Sacramento Martinez was apprehended a short time after fleeing the wreck. The subsequent prosecution reported admissions by Sacramento to shooting both victims and led to a conviction and life sentence. Did anyone in New Braunfels or along I-35 see the Expedition or the truck before the shootings?
