Megan Kirkland, 19, of Abilene, Texas, was killed on August 16, 2020, while at a large house party on Fulwiler Road. A fight broke out at the gathering; someone fired warning shots into the air and, from another direction, a different person began shooting. Megan was fatally struck by a bullet and her death was ruled a homicide.

The Taylor County Sheriff’s Office interviewed more than 80 people present at the party and said investigators were still trying to locate an additional 30 to 40 attendees to complete their inquiries. Three others — Stephanie Avalos, Kimberly Renee Limas, and Ramon Aguirres Jr. — were charged with tampering with evidence for allegedly burning Johnson Jr.’s clothing and coordinating stories; they remain awaiting court proceedings.

Megan worked as a waitress and a receptionist and planned to attend Cisco College. Her family and friends remember her as vibrant and caring. If anyone who attended the August 16 party or who has information about what happened that night can help, please come forward.
