Diajwan Triplett, 31, of Texas City, Texas, was murdered on July 31, 2020. Investigators say the slaying was part of a larger, revenge-driven sequence of events that began after Triplett’s death.
Michael King, 25, was arrested and later convicted in connection with Triplett’s killing. King’s half-brother, Dawayland Hurst, has been implicated in the related violence; Hurst reportedly developed a relationship with MaryJayne Collins, who was the mother of King’s child. Reports say Collins was abused and later killed in an episode that prosecutors have connected to a desire to avenge Triplett’s death. The last time Collins was seen alive was during a FaceTime call from King in prison, when Hurst answered the call and taunted King.
The sequence links Triplett’s murder to subsequent domestic violence and another killing; it raises questions about how retaliation unfolded and whether warning signs were missed. If anyone knew Diajwan, MaryJayne, Michael King or Dawayland Hurst, or saw concerning interactions in 2020, please share information with the authorities.
