A shooting in the Oliver Springs area of northern Comanche County left three people dead on July 25, 2020. Victims included 63-year-old Earl Stephens III of De Leon, 18-year-old Ashlyn Smith, and Patricia Stephens, 62, who was transported to John Peter Smith Hospital and later died of her injuries. Authorities say Brendan Jenkins, 22, called 911 and admitted to the shooting; deputies found Earl and Ashlyn deceased at the scene and Jenkins was taken into custody that day under a capital murder warrant.

The Comanche County Sheriff’s Office and the Texas Ranger Division led the investigation and gave no public motive. The Sheriff’s Office offered condolences to the families and asked for community support during their grief.
