Jose E. Aguilar was 21 when he was fatally shot on May 29, 2020, in the 800 block of Bloomington Street in the Molina neighborhood of Corpus Christi. The Nueces County Medical Examiner ruled the cause of death as multiple gunshot wounds. The shooting occurred around 9:45 p.m. after Aguilar got into an argument outside and was shot shortly afterward. A suspect fled the scene; witnesses or police described him as a Hispanic man about 5 feet 10 inches and 190 pounds with a distinct scar across the bridge of his nose.
Corpus Christi Police investigators later identified Eric Galvan as a person of interest and went to a Rockford Drive address on June 3, 2020, to question him. During that encounter Galvan grabbed a handgun and fired at officers, who returned fire; Galvan was later pronounced dead at a hospital. The District Attorney noted it was possible Galvan died from a self-inflicted gunshot wound during the struggle with police. The case was presented to a Nueces County grand jury, and three officers involved were placed on administrative leave: Senior Officer Charla Hemerly, Detective Crispin Mendez, and Officer Alyssa Hernandez.
Anyone who knew Jose Aguilar or witnessed the May 29 shooting is asked to share what they know with investigators.
