Juan Carlos Olvera, 35, a Hispanic man from Rio Grande City, was shot to death on February 19, 2020, on Loma Blanca Road in Garciasville, Texas. He was found lying in the middle of the road with multiple gunshot wounds after 911 callers reported hearing gunfire and seeing a body. Two vehicles were observed leaving the scene: a black pickup truck and a white passenger vehicle.

The Starr County Sheriff’s Office opened a homicide investigation and called in the Texas Rangers. Witnesses reported a black pickup with three occupants who were cooperating with authorities, and the white vehicle was later found abandoned near a river. No arrests have been announced and the case remains unsolved. Hernandez Funeral Home of Rio Grande City handled funeral arrangements.
