Genaro Isaiah Castillo, 18 and known to family as Izzy, was found shot to death on January 14, 2020, on a caliche road near a sugarcane field off Valley View Road in the Donna Lakes area. A farm worker discovered his body around 5:47 p.m.; authorities estimated he had been killed only 10 to 15 minutes earlier. Investigators recovered tire tracks and .40 caliber casings at the scene.

The Hidalgo County Sheriff’s Office quickly identified a suspect and arrested 17-year-old Carlos Julian Contreras of Alamo the next day, saying the killing grew out of a dispute over money tied to criminal activity. Contreras was charged with murder and pleaded not guilty; his case proceeded through the courts. Castillo’s family remembered him as funny and charismatic, and his mother and aunt later addressed the court about the impact of his death.

Does anyone have information about Castillo’s final movements on January 14, 2020, or saw him in the Donna area that afternoon?
