Jayden Washington was a 16-year-old student-athlete at Duncanville High School who was shot and killed on the evening of January 11, 2020, after a planned meeting at an apartment complex in the 500 block of E. Belt Line Road in DeSoto. He was a passenger in a friend’s car; the friend had arranged on Snapchat to buy marijuana from three people. Police say the meeting was a well planned robbery intended to steal money and drugs. When the friend tried to drive away the suspects opened fire, striking both occupants; their vehicle crashed and became impaled under an SUV.
Jayden was taken to a hospital and succumbed to his injuries; the driver survived with serious injuries. Detectives used cell phone records to identify three suspects: Nikovian Devon Calhoun, 17, Zachary Jaheim Shelton, 17, and Jarrod Raymond Ford Jr., 18. Calhoun was arrested January 29, 2020; investigators found ammunition at his residence that matched shell casings from the scene. LaPre Mcelewee, Calhoun’s 17-year-old girlfriend, was charged with tampering with physical evidence after allegedly deleting apps and messages. Ford turned himself in, and Shelton was also taken into custody; all three were charged with capital murder and aggravated assault with a deadly weapon and were in custody awaiting legal proceedings as of January 2020.
Does anyone who knew Jayden or who was in DeSoto that night have information that could help clarify what happened?
