Daniel Rene Garza, 26, was one of two men found shot to death on December 5, 2019, in a Westside Corpus Christi home on the 1200 block of Elgin Street. The Nueces County Medical Examiner identified Garza and 25-year-old George Slyvestor Soto; police immediately classified the scene as a homicide.
Investigators developed 27-year-old Jose Luis Ramirez as the primary suspect after witnesses told detectives Ramirez believed Garza and Soto had been involved with the mother of his child. Ramirez was known to frequent the house and was someone the victims would have allowed inside. He was arrested the next day, December 6, 2019, and found with a .45 caliber handgun later confirmed as the murder weapon; casings matched the scene, and blood was found on the gun, on Ramirez’s clothes, and on cash he had. Ramirez had an injury to his left hand consistent with firing a weapon.
Ramirez was charged with capital murder of multiple persons and additional offenses including assault causing bodily injury to a family member, drug possession, unlawful possession of a firearm by a felon, and theft of a firearm, with bond set at $1 million. What details about motive or events inside the home might witnesses or forensic evidence still clarify for investigators?
