Chauntelle Bernard, a 42-year-old African American woman, was shot and killed on November 28, 2019, at her home in the South Shore Harbor neighborhood of League City, Texas. The attack happened on Thanksgiving Day while her sister and her young sons were present. Her husband, Dudley Bernard, a former U.S. Customs and Border Protection officer, fired multiple rounds from a .45-caliber handgun; prosecutors say he kicked in the back door, shot her 13 times in the arm, torso, and side of the head, and then fired six additional bullets into the back of her head as she lay on the ground. He was arrested at the scene by the League City Police Department.

At trial jurors rejected an initial claim that the shooting was accidental and convicted Dudley Bernard of first-degree murder in August 2022. On October 28, 2022, Judge John Ellisor sentenced him to 30 years in prison with parole eligibility after 15 years. Chauntelle’s family remembered her as a warm, joyful presence and a devoted mother whose sons continue to grieve.

Did anyone in the League City area know Chauntelle or have information about her life and routines that could add context to the case?
