Robert Serrata, 62, was shot and later died on October 3, 2019, after an early-morning shooting at a bus stop near the AMC Corpus Christi 16 on Silverberry Drive. Serrata was taken to a hospital with life-threatening injuries and succumbed later that day.
A 55-year-old man, Marcus Villarreal, was arrested at the scene and charged with murder. Villarreal told officers he fired in self-defense after being attacked by Serrata. Officers recovered a gun from Villarreal at the time of the arrest. The case was bound over to the 117th District Court in Nueces County with a $1 million bond set.
The shooting and the legal proceedings drew significant local attention. Anyone who was near the AMC Corpus Christi 16 that morning or who has information about what happened at the bus stop is asked to come forward.
