Emilio Flores, 53, was found dead from a gunshot wound to the chest in the 200 block of Peoples Street in Corpus Christi, Texas, in the early morning of September 1, 2019. Investigators determined he was shot about 4:22 a.m.; the Nueces County Medical Examiner confirmed the cause of death as a gunshot wound to the chest. Flores was described as homeless.

The Corpus Christi Police Department identified 18-year-old Victor Padilla as a suspect and arrested him on September 4, 2019; Padilla was later charged with murder and held on $500,000 bond. Police also sought to speak to Tommy Highfill, named as a person of interest.
