Jesse Angel Rodriguez was 20 and from Beaumont, Texas when he was shot and killed on August 17, 2019. The disturbance escalated; Rodriguez was pursued and shot by four people who were later indicted on first-degree murder charges.

Named in the case are Martin Vincent Pettway Jr., Xavier Michael Parrish, Nayah Mayfield, and Taylor Jones. Pettway and Parrish were each held on a $1 million bond; Mayfield was released on a $5,000 bond. Taylor Jones admitted to being in the car when shots were fired and gave a voluntary statement to police.

The Rodriguez family expressed gratitude after the guilty verdict and said no sentence could bring Jesse back; they plan to honor him by naming a soccer court after him and possibly creating an organization in his name.
