Jakebrian Keke Jones, a 30-year-old African American man, was killed on August 9, 2019, in Carthage, Texas. He was found unresponsive after a violent altercation in the early hours of the morning; emergency services pronounced him dead at the scene. Authorities opened a murder investigation and identified several suspects.
Prosecutors said the fight began over a gambling debt. Witnesses testified that a 28-year-old man threatened Jakebrian and that the dispute escalated into a physical confrontation. The primary suspect was arrested, tried, convicted of first-degree murder and sentenced to life without parole.
Jakebrian’s family and friends have since pushed for greater awareness of gambling-related violence and for more support for victims. If anyone knew Jakebrian or has information about the events leading to that night, please come forward.
