On August 5, 2019, 15-year-old ZaVhon Brown of Converse, Texas, was shot in the face with an AR-15 rifle at a home in the 7500 block of Gander Park. He was taken to San Antonio Military Medical Center in critical condition and died shortly after arrival.

Converse police identified 21-year-old acquaintance Robert Rene Amaya as the suspect. Officers say Amaya was believed to have been playing with the rifle when it discharged, fatally wounding ZaVhon. Amaya fled on foot after the shooting; a warrant for manslaughter was issued and he was later taken into custody and charged with manslaughter and aggravated assault with a deadly weapon. Bail was set at $150,000. The investigation included witness interviews and evidence collection, and the community offered support to ZaVhon’s family.

Who knew ZaVhon or was at the home that morning and can share what happened before the shooting?
