Joel Lopez Martinez, 42, was killed at his Port Arthur home on 18th Street in the early hours of July 19, 2019. Martinez was taken to a local hospital and died of his injuries.

Surveillance video and witness statements were cited in the investigation; a witness who came forward in December 2019 identified Jaylen Lott and Rakeem Roache as the attackers. A pistol and a spent shell casing were recovered at the scene, and investigators reported that Lott shot himself while fleeing.
