Gavin McFarland, a 16-year-old student at Sinton High School, was shot and killed on June 23, 2019, in Saint Paul, Texas. The shooting occurred about 12:45 a.m. after Gavin and his father, Gabe McFarland, were forced off a back road by a pickup truck. Gavin followed the other vehicle; both vehicles stopped and Gavin’s father exited to confront the driver. Gavin joined the altercation and a passenger in the other pickup shot both Gavin and his father.

Gabe McFarland survived and was treated at a hospital before being released. The San Patricio County Sheriff’s Office investigated the incident as a road rage shooting. Two suspects were arrested: Carlos Chumacero, 27, was charged with aggravated assault with a deadly weapon and later faced a murder charge, and Henry Roland Gonzales Jr., 33, was charged with aggravated assault with a deadly weapon. The community and Sinton High School mourned Gavin as a popular, athletic student.

Are there witnesses who were on that back road or who knew Gavin and can share what they saw that night?
