DeVonte Duncan was a 17-year-old from Garland, Texas, who died after being shot during an evening altercation on May 21, 2019. The shooting took place around 9:00 p.m. in the 2000 block of Highwood Drive near East Miller Road. He was found with at least one gunshot wound and was taken to Texas Health Presbyterian Dallas, where he later died.

Police say the shooting followed a physical fight between Duncan and an 18-year-old, Sabir Arebo Adem. Witnesses helped officers locate Adem, who was arrested and charged with murder and held in the Garland Jail without bond while detectives continued interviewing additional witnesses.

Duncan’s family and friends remembered him as a standout athlete at Garland High School who competed in varsity football, basketball, and track, and as someone devoted to his faith and family. Does anyone who knew DeVonte or was in that neighborhood the night of May 21 have information to share?
