Richard Peña, a 54-year-old house painter from Dallas, was fatally shot on May 3, 2019, at about 10:45 p.m. in the White Rock neighborhood. The shooting happened inside a residence in the 1200 block of Peavy Road after an argument with a longtime friend, 65-year-old Bobby Roberts. The dispute reportedly escalated when Roberts produced a handgun; a single shot struck Peña in the chest and he was pronounced dead at the scene.
Roberts called 911 after the shooting and later told police he had shot Peña because Peña was talking too much smack, according to an arrest warrant affidavit. Roberts confessed during questioning, was arrested, charged with murder, and held in the Dallas County jail with bail set at $100,000. Peña is remembered by family as a jokester who loved fishing, swimming and carpentry. He is survived by his wife Sally Peña, son Little Richard, sister Virginia Mata, and brothers Jesse and Tino Peña, and was preceded in death by his parents Micaela and Joe Peña and siblings Michael, Joseph and David Peña.
Did anyone in the White Rock area see or hear anything that evening that could shed more light on what happened?
