Anthony Wilson, 37, of Beaumont, Texas, was fatally shot on April 11, 2019. Police responded shortly after 10 p.m. to a shooting in the 6800 block of Madrid Drive and found Wilson lying near a roadway; he was pronounced dead at the scene.

Investigators say Wilson confronted three people suspected of committing a string of auto burglaries in the Dowlen West neighborhood, including at Wilson’s own residence. During that confrontation he was shot, and his truck was taken and later found abandoned.

Several arrests were made in connection with the killing, including a 17-year-old charged with first-degree felony murder and multiple burglary counts, and a 15-year-old certified as an adult and charged in the case; others accused include a man alleged to have hidden the firearm. The community was reported as deeply affected by Wilson’s death.
