Lori Susan Perez, 58, of Longview, Texas, was shot to death in her home in the early morning hours of February 19, 2019. Police found her and her 38-year-old daughter, Kristy Nicole Perez, dead from gunshot wounds at a residence in the 1700 block of Loring Lane; minors were inside the house at the time. Investigators said domestic violence may have been a factor.
With witness help, officers quickly identified and arrested 43-year-old Troy James Rider Jr., who was taken into custody at a local apartment complex and charged with capital murder. It was later reported that Rider was Kristy Perez’s ex-boyfriend and that Kristy had obtained an injunction against him weeks before the killings.
After more than seven years in custody on a $2 million bond, Rider pleaded guilty to capital murder on April 28, 2026; a judge accepted the plea and sentenced him to life in prison without parole in April 2026. Did anyone who knew Lori or Kristy notice changes in their safety or concerns in the weeks before February 19, 2019?
