Olivia Jones, a 38-year-old woman from Beaumont, Texas, was fatally shot inside her home on February 14, 2019. Christopher said Olivia grabbed a loaded gun and he tried to take it from her; during a struggle the weapon discharged, striking Olivia in the back of the head. Responding officers found her lying on her stomach with an exit wound through her right eye.

Investigators reviewed footage from several surveillance cameras inside the home that captured events leading up to the shooting. The footage and other evidence did not support Christopher’s claim that Olivia was suicidal. Christopher Ray Jones was arrested, charged with murder, and a jury later convicted him of first-degree felony murder. He was sentenced to 30 years in prison. Olivia’s family, including her younger brother Joshua Simmons, described her as a driven and loving mother who was devoted to her daughters.
