Sherrell Carter, 26, was found dead at her Waco home at 5630 Wilshire Drive on February 3, 2019, with multiple gunshot wounds and was pronounced dead at the scene. The shooting was reported by her husband, Quest Alabaughn Jones, and detectives described the killing as part of a continued pattern of family violence; Jones was listed as a person of interest early in the investigation.

A few days after the murder Jones was arrested and booked into the McLennan County Jail with bond set at $600,000. The case later reached trial in September 2022 but ended in a mistrial when the jury could not reach a unanimous verdict; a second trial began in April 2023 and resulted in a guilty verdict and a 60-year sentence. Carter left behind three young children; her family has sought answers and a GoFundMe was set up to help cover expenses.

Anyone who knew Sherrell, her family, or who has information about the events leading up to February 3, 2019, is asked to come forward.
