Juan Espinoza Sr., 62, of Taft, Texas, was one of four men killed in a mass shooting during a 1-year-old’s birthday party on October 13, 2018. The party was in the 500 block of Wilburn Street. The confrontation reportedly began earlier in the year when a family member accused Espinoza Sr. of looking into a residence window.

At the party, Ronnie Rodriguez Jr. exchanged words with Espinoza Sr.; Espinoza Sr. briefly left but returned with four other men. Both Ronnie Rodriguez Sr. and Ronnie Rodriguez Jr. were arrested; Rodriguez Sr. was indicted on capital murder charges and Rodriguez Jr. faced deadly-conduct charges for discharging a firearm. The deaths devastated the victims’ families and the local community.
