Juan Sandoval III, a 20-year-old Hispanic man from Taft, Texas, was one of four men killed in a mass shooting at a first birthday party on October 13, 2018. The party took place in the 500 block of Wilburn Street. Five men were struck in the shooting; four, including Sandoval, died at the scene and one survived with injuries.
According to witness accounts, the confrontation began after Ronnie Rodriguez Jr. was accused of looking into a window at the residence earlier that day. Rodriguez Jr. confronted Sandoval and his companions and discharged a handgun but did not hit anyone. Witnesses say Ronnie Rodriguez Sr. then took the weapon from his son and opened fire, striking five men.
Both Ronnie Rodriguez Jr. and Ronnie Rodriguez Sr. were arrested and later indicted on capital murder charges; both remained in custody. If anyone at the party or neighbors on Wilburn Street has information that could help investigators, please come forward.
