Donnie Combs, 31, was killed in Linden, Texas, on September 25, 2018. He and Cynthia Arnold were last seen together that day and reportedly using methamphetamine with Kevin Dewayne Shepard Jr. Eyewitness accounts and Shepard’s later confession say Shepard shot Arnold in the head while she rested in her truck, then shot Combs after telling him he had something for him; Combs tried to flee but was chased and shot again. Shepard then burned both bodies in a large fire pit along with tires and trash.

The case cooled until July 2019 when an eyewitness came forward. Texas Rangers and FBI personnel helped process the burn site, where investigators recovered burned bone fragments, bullet casings, and an earring a family member identified as Arnold’s. Shepard was convicted of capital murder and sentenced to life without parole. The Cass County Sheriff’s Office, Marion County Sheriff’s Office, Texas Rangers, FBI and Texas Department of Public Safety all took part in the investigation.

Did anyone in Linden or the surrounding counties know Combs, Arnold, or Shepard and have details about their movements that night?
