Pierre Childs was 16 and a student at Sumner High School when he was shot in St. Louis on the evening of Tuesday, May 7, 2013. He was found in the vicinity of the 4100 block of Enright Avenue with a gunshot wound, taken to a nearby hospital, and pronounced dead. His death added to a troubling pattern of gun violence affecting the city’s youth and deeply affected his family, classmates and school staff.

The St. Louis Metropolitan Police Department’s Homicide Division investigated, canvassing the neighborhood for witnesses. The following year Sumner High School held a peace summit and a ceremonial balloon release in memory of Childs and three other students killed by violence.
