On July 27, 2018, 60-year-old Thelma Montalvo was found shot to death at Retama Manor Nursing Center in Robstown, Texas. She was discovered alongside her 85-year-old husband, Ernest Starry. Authorities identified 60-year-old Richard Starry, Ernest’s son, as the person who shot and killed both Ernest Starry and Thelma Montalvo before dying; reports describe the deaths as connected but do not explain the motive.
Investigators believe two additional victims were killed earlier that day at a separate residence shared by Ernest Starry and Thelma Montalvo: a 13-year-old boy and a 40-year-old man identified as Montalvo’s son, Roel Mireles. The Robstown Police Department led the investigation with assistance from the Texas Rangers, and the case was referred to the Nueces County District Attorney for review. No motive has been released.
Anyone with information about the victims, their movements on July 27, 2018, or relevant details is asked to come forward.
