Ray Shawn Hudson Jr. was 4 years old when he was killed on June 10, 2018, in Wharton County, Texas. He was one of three members of his family who died in the same incident; his parents, Ray Shawn Hudson Sr., 28, and Maya Rivera, 24, also were found among charred remains located on rural property after the family had been reported missing from their Angleton home. The bodies had been burned, which made identification difficult.
Investigators linked 36-year-old Robert Allen Satterfield to the killings while he was already in custody on unrelated charges. He was charged with three counts of murder; prosecutors said the victims had been killed and their bodies burned in a pit. Authorities described possible motives as paranoia, perceived disrespect, and a potential robbery.
The case moved through a lengthy, emotional trial that concluded with a guilty verdict and a death sentence. Family members said the outcome brought some relief, particularly for Maya Rivera’s mother, Frances Rivera.
