Michael Ryan Love, 26, of Mesquite, Texas, was killed on January 3, 2018, in Garland during an attempt to recover a stolen camera arranged through the online marketplace OfferUp. The meeting took place at a vacant house on Glenmoor Drive where an argument with two sellers — identified as Terry Albert Simmons, 39, and Nathaniel Wooldridge, 46 — escalated into a shootout. Love was taken to a hospital by friends and pronounced dead; Simmons was found dead at the scene and an acquaintance suffered non-life-threatening injuries.
Nathaniel Wooldridge was arrested and charged with Love’s murder; the investigation into Simmons’s death remains ongoing. Love had played basketball at Eastfield College; his mother described him as kind and well liked who loved his family, friends, and basketball. The Garland Police Department has urged people to use police safe exchange zones with cameras for online transactions.
