Randy Holmes, 56, of Newton County, Texas, was reported missing on November 24, 2017. Investigators treated the disappearance as suspicious, and Holmes’ mother, Betty Holmes, publicly suggested his death might have been retaliatory in nature.

Holmes’ remains were found in Newton County in November 2019. In March 2020 John Michael Toby Peck was charged with Holmes’ murder; prosecutors alleged Peck shot Holmes, ran over the body with a tractor, and set it on fire. Peck was also later convicted of tampering with a corpse and sentenced to 20 years in prison. Jaret Michael Chaudoin was charged with murder, tampering with evidence to impair a human corpse, and evading arrest in a vehicle.

The investigation involved the Newton County Sheriff’s Office, the Newton Police Department, the FBI, and the Texas Attorney General’s Office. Peck’s home was set on fire hours after his release on a $1 million bond; investigators believed the blaze was intentionally set. Does anyone have information about Holmes’ last known movements or contacts in Newton County?
