Karen Sue Marshall, 56, was among 26 people killed when a gunman opened fire during a November 5, 2017 church service in Sutherland Springs, Texas. A Senior Master Sergeant in the United States Air Force, she had served for more than 20 years. Karen and her husband, Robert Scott Marshall, who also died in the attack, had been married 33 years and enjoyed motorcycle trips and practical jokes.
The shooter, identified as Devin Patrick Kelley, had a prior court-martial in the Air Force for domestic violence and assault. Despite that history, he obtained firearms and carried out the attack, which left 20 people wounded in addition to the fatalities. Kelley fled the scene and was later found dead from a self-inflicted gunshot wound.
