Darrence O’Brien Kindle, a 31-year-old Black man from Lufkin, Texas, was shot and killed on November 3, 2017, during an attempted robbery at a Dollar General. An armed man wearing a Scream mask entered the store and demanded money; a round from a handgun struck Darrence in the head. He was taken to a local hospital and later died of his injuries.
The suspect fled on foot into nearby woods. Lufkin Police described him as a Black male, likely a teenager or in his 20s, about 5 feet 10 inches to 6 feet tall, and wearing red Nike Air Zoom Kobe Venomenon 4 basketball shoes. Investigators say the department conducted an extensive probe but turned up few leads and have continued to ask the public for tips, offering a reward for information that leads to an arrest and grand jury indictment.
The case remains unsolved and the suspect has not been apprehended. Anyone who knew Darrence, saw activity around the Dollar General on November 3, 2017, or has information that could help investigators is asked to come forward.
