Gabriel Diaz, 25, was shot to death outside his mobile home in the Towne North Mobile Home Park in Laredo, Texas, on November 2, 2017. Neighbors reported hearing gunshots around 2:51 PM and found him lying in a pool of blood; first responders pronounced him dead at the scene. An autopsy found he had been shot six times in the back with a semi-automatic handgun.

Police arrested 41-year-old Maurice Jerome Holmes of San Antonio at the scene after a short chase; officers recovered a .40-caliber semi-automatic handgun that matched the murder weapon. Holmes said a friend, Santos Pruneda, had driven him to Gabriel’s house; investigators later arrested and charged Pruneda with murder as well.

Gabriel was remembered in his community as an honest, hardworking young man who tried to help others.
